As a developing country with over 26 million impoverished people equivalent to almost 10% of 2024 total population, Indonesia’s income disparity gap is high. Gini coefficient which measures income inequality registered at 38,3 in March 2023, remaining among the highest in Asia.

In effort to close the income gap disparity and increase the living quality of a country, the following fundamental issues must first be addressed appropriately: education, economy & finance, health & healthcare, public services, and taxation.

The widening income disparity gap in the country is a major concern as data released in 2023 by the National Statistic Board of Indonesia showing a surge in crime rate which has a linear relationship to the broadening income gap disparity, particularly since 2022.

In a bid to help solve one of the nation’s largest issue, GOBE & Co. stepped up to propose a circular economy project aimed at providing employment, tackling food sustainability issue, lowering crime rate through increased household income and better education, at the same time eradicating stunting.

The project would combine customized technology for Biofloc system and implemented as a collaborative effort from institutions and enterprises as part of their CSR program. Since its’ exposé, the project has garnered public’s attention and support including the National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN), Rotary Clubs, local universities, private enterprises, SOEs, and various communities.

Targeted to start by 2025 in Mojokerto, East Java; the area possesses a large population who still live below poverty line. Serving as pilot for other cities to implement similar projects to embrace circular economy, the Biofloc site will be built close to Mbencirang tourism destination.

Prominent industry and technical experts including Professor Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo who sits on the Board of Governor of BRIN and an expert consultant to the Indonesia Minister of Communication & Information have joined forces with GOBE & Co. in this project.
